We see this verse, and we automatically think of priorities.
First
God first
His Kingdom first
But this verse is not about a list of priorities. It's not about stating what you think is most important.
First is attached to a verb = seek.
Seek first
The definition given for the Greek word, translated as seek is:
to seek, search for, desire, require, demand
Do you desire His Kingdom and righteousness - first - above all else?
Do you search for what God wills and what God wants?
Do you accept nothing less than His righteousness in your own actions?
This verse has a bold expectation with a big promise.
If you're going to be honest about this verse, you have to look at your daily actions, your daily thoughts, your actual goals and pursuits.
The promise is attached to the obedience.
We are not perfect, but what we seek matters.
