Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:5-7
Have this mind . . .
Then Paul goes on describing Jesus - how He let go of His glory, position, equality with God; how He emptied Himself; His choice to be a servant - which all began with becoming a person.
It's beyond comprehension what Jesus did and sacrificed to become a human for us. He came and fulfilled all the things that we could not.
Our thoughts go to Jesus and all He did - but then we must return to the first part of verse 5:
Have this mind
We have learned to see Jesus in this manor, to stand back in awe of what He chose and all He sacrificed - but Paul is saying - YOU - Be like this.
Jesus did this - now you do the same.
Have this same attitude and purpose for your life, your day.
Jesus did it best, but as disciples, we are called to live as a servant.
We have to release our grip on our "rightful" possessions and positions.
We are called to be empty - as Jesus was empty.
May God help us be transformed by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2)
