Sink or Float?

Miracles.

Sometimes we have the faith

the boldness

to call out for a big one.

To stand in the gap.

To lay on hands.

To hope beyond reality for a rescue or a healing.

But, do you ever whisper?

Do you look up to Him for your own moments,

even the small ones?

Do you kneel?

Do you pray right there on the spot?

Are you following so closely at the heels of Jesus

that you can reach out for His help?

Do you know how much He cares about your day?

---

God gave many miracles through Elisha.

Healing, raising from the dead, rescues in battle

But, one day -

a guy lost an ax.

This man, a prophet, was helping build a new meeting place for the prophets.

He had borrowed the ax, because he didn't have his own.

And it dropped in the river.

It sank.

He was doing a good work, with a borrowed ax,

and there it went.

And you know that sinking feeling.

It's not life-and-death.

It's only important to you,

but you sink with it.

What's your response?

Anger?

Despair?

How quickly do you call out a prayer?

Do you even expect God to listen to your silly ax problem?

Are you close enough to reach Jesus' hem

and hope for something just for you?

Or - -

maybe you're the one seeing a friend in panic.

Do you roll your eyes and think "Man, it's an ax. Get over it."?

or

Do you call out a prayer for that friend?

Because you know God sees,

and God cares.

You know that:

the price of two sparrows is one copper coin. But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.  And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Matthew 10:29-30

You pray for the friend - even if he can't or doesn't -

because we are to

share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

And the faith of one-

or even the faith of a friend-

makes the impossible rise to the surface.

"Where did it fall? the man of God asked. When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it into the water. Then the ax head rose to the surface and floated. 2 Kings 6:6

Today -

Will you sink or float?

Will you take the time to lift up a friend?

Will your faith bring a miracle in the mundane?

Jesus cares - even about your ax.
